Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

Purpose & Scope

Lightning Learning Project is committed to ensuring the safety, well-being, and protection of all children and young people receiving tuition services. This policy applies to all tutors, staff members, and subcontractors.

Key Safeguarding Principles

  • The welfare of the child is paramount in all circumstances.

  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation, have an equal right to protection from abuse.

  • All suspicions, allegations, or disclosures of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.

Vetting & Recruitment

  • All tutors must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before commencing any tutoring sessions.

  • References and identity checks are verified prior to placement.

  • DBS checks are reviewed regularly to maintain compliance.

Reporting & Disclosure Procedures

If a student discloses abuse, or if a tutor observes signs of potential harm or neglect:

  1. Listen & Support: Listen calmly without asking leading questions. Do not promise absolute confidentiality, but reassure the child that they are doing the right thing.

  2. Record: Make detailed written notes immediately after the disclosure, including dates, times, facts, and exact phrasings where possible.

  3. Report: Contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately at [DSL Contact Email/Phone]. If a child is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (999) without delay.
